A blepharoplasty or eyelid lift is a procedure performed to remove excess skin and tissue that may cause droopy, baggy eyelids.
A blepharoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient in the doctor’s office or in an ambulatory surgery center. Surgery can be done to the upper eyelids as well as the lower eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery requires an incision in the crease of the eyelid, whereas lower eyelid surgery can be done with an incision hidden close to the lashes or even done on the inside of the eyelid. These decisions will be based on the amount of surgery needed and can be discussed with Dr. Linder. Sagging tissues are tightened, and fat pads reduced or repositioned. A brow lift or mid-face lift may be performed to reposition the surrounding structures. For best long-term benefit, skin care products are recommended to improve the skin integrity.
